Weisselberg Deputy Secretary at Connecticut OPM

Susan Weisselberg will become deputy secretary of the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management, OPM Secretary Benjamin Barnes announced Jan. 5.

Weisselberg will begin Jan. 26, according to Barnes, who made the appointment. She replaces Karen Buffkin, whom Gov. Dannel Malloy named general counsel.

Most recently Weisselberg was chief of wraparound services for the New Haven Public Schools. Her local government service includes 14 years as program coordinator for the school system's school construction program. She has also worked in the offices of the city's chief administrator and corporation counsel.

"There are few people in Connecticut with her policy, budget and administrative experience in both state and local government," Barnes said in a statement.

Weisselberg was chief legal counsel to the General Assembly's House Democrats from 2009-2012, working on legislative and budget policy with House Speaker Christopher Donovan. She has experience at OPM as regulations and executive advisor, from 1991 to 1995.
