The federal government ran an $8.7 billion surplus in January, the Treasury Department reported Tuesday.

In January 2018, the government ran a $49.2 billion surplus.
Outlays in January totaled $331.297 billion. Receipts totaled $339.980 billion.
Year-to-date, the government had a $310.250 billion deficit, compared to a $175.716 billion deficit for fiscal 2018.
