Sycamore expands with veteran banker hire

A veteran banker and issuer with more than two decades of experience in public finance has joined the ranks at Sycamore Advisors LLC.

Phil Wasserman, who was previously the deputy director of the Nassau County Office of Management and Budget, comes on board at the independent municipal advisory firm just as it expands its New York City office.

Wasserman is a senior vice president of the Sycamore’s national municipal advisory practice, Chris Valentino and Lucien Harlow-Dion in the New York office.

The firm provides independent advice for high-priority municipal projects for clients in the Northeast and Midwest.

Wasserman's more than 21 years of experience as a banker and issuer includes 13 years as a member of the New York City’s Finance Policy Team.

While there, Wasserman served in various roles, including vice president of the Hudson Yards Infrastructure Corporation and deputy treasurer for multiple entities including the New York City Municipal Water Finance Authority and the Transitional Finance Authority.

While deputy director Nassau County OMB, he developed and implemented a strategy to restructure the county’s debt and help run annual surpluses in excess of $100 million.

“With the increasing volatility in the capital markets, Phil’s quantitative expertise and in-depth knowledge of sophisticated concepts give Sycamore enhanced capabilities to address issues affecting our municipal clients,” Diana Hamilton, president of Sycamore, said in a statement. “Phil’s skill set nicely complements our existing team and we are thrilled that he chose to join Sycamore.”

As a banker, Phil Wasserman supported clients in the Northeast and issuers with unique quantitative challenges. His past clients have included the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, Railsplitter Tobacco, and the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation.

Prior to working for Nassau County, Wasserman served as managing director for an investment banking firm that provided services to major municipal clients throughout New York and Wisconsin. Before his finance career, he worked as an environmental engineer designing and building nuclear waste treatment facilities.
