Raimondo Names Hull R.I. Revenue Director

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo named Providence Equity Partners executive Robert S. Hull to lead the Department of Revenue, pending state Senate approval.

Hull will succeed Marilyn Shannon McConaghy, the acting director of the revenue department after Rosemary Booth Gallogly retired last year. McConaghy will remain in the department as administrative and legal support services administrator.

A financial industry veteran, Hull has managed technology, regulatory, financial and strategic planning efforts over 30 years in the private sector.

At Providence Equity, Hull was senior advisor, managing director and chief financial officer.

Previously, he was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Ally Inc., formerly GMAC Inc. He was part of the restructuring team that worked with the U.S. Treasury Department and other federal regulators to eventually pay off 100% of its $17 billion in federal assistance under the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

He also held senior finance positions with Bank of America, including chief financial officer of the bank's wealth and investment management division.

Hull will oversee the department's four state divisions: lottery, motor vehicles, municipal finance and taxation, as well as the Office of Revenue Analysis. He will manage a department exceeding 500 employees and a more than $478 million budget for this fiscal year.

Hull holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. He is a Providence Foundation board member.
