Philly Mayor-Elect Taps New Airport CEO

Philadelphia's mayor-elect, Jim Kenney, picked the chief operating officer of Philadelphia International Airport, Chellie Cameron, to be the airport's next chief executive.

Cameron has worked in the airport's leadership team for five years and was appointed COO in December 2014. Before arriving in Philadelphia, Cameron spent 13 years with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which operates Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport and the Dulles Toll Road, where she oversaw financial and business departments. She served as officer in the United States Air Force for seven years, which included assignments in Alabama, Washington D.C. and Turkey.

"There are few in the aviation industry with more experience and expertise than Chellie Cameron," said Kenney in a statement announcing her appointment on Dec. 3. "Her service in the Air Force and her work overseeing three airports in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia has all been exemplary."

Cameron will replace Mark Gale, who is retiring after six years leading the nation's 12th busiest airport. The airport, which is a hub for American Airlines, was downgraded one notch by Standard & Poor's to A from A-plus in August due largely to a "relatively weak liquidity position."
