New hire bolsters Piper's high yield, structured product capabilities

Piper Jaffray hired Kyle Javes to fill a new post as co-head of high yield and structured products as the firm has its eye on expanding specialty sectors.

Javes rejoined the firm’s Minneapolis headquarters in April to work with John Pellicci, head of the high yield and structured products. Javes is returning to a firm where he worked earlier in his career.

Piper Jaffray hired Kyle Javes to fill a new post as co-head of high yield and structured products in 2019.

Javes allows Piper Jaffray to further leverage its capabilities in structuring, underwriting, and actively trading multifaceted offerings, John Miller, head of fixed income sales and underwriting, said in a statement.

“His background and experience in senior housing and charter school finance demonstrates our commitment to continued growth of our specialty finance sectors,” Pellicci added.

The firm said it continues to be on the lookout for growth opportunities in its those sectors.

Before returning to Piper last month, Javes held the position of head of underwriting and high-yield trading at Ziegler. While at Ziegler, Javes underwrote more than 50 transactions annually totaling more than $3 billion.

Before Ziegler, he worked in municipal trading at Dougherty & Co.

Javes originally joined Piper in 2005 where he worked in the municipal derivatives department until 2012 when he moved over to municipal underwriting and trading. He left in 2014.
