Muni Bond Indexes Fall in Latest Week

The weekly average yield to maturity of The Bond Buyer Municipal Bond Index, which is based on 40 long-term bond prices, fell two basis points to 4.29% in the week ended Dec. 31, from 4.31% in the previous week.

The Bond Buyer's 20-Bond GO Index of 20-year general obligation yields declined nine basis points to 3.56% from 3.65% in the previous week. The last time the index was lower was on Jan. 24, 2013, when it stood at 3.54%.

The 11-Bond GO Index of higher-grade 20-year GO yields was also down nine basis points, to 3.41% from 3.50% in the prior week. It is at its lowest level since Jan. 24, 2013, when it stood at 3.30%.

The Bond Buyer's Revenue Bond Index dropped four basis points to 4.39% from 4.43% in the previous week. The last time it was at this number was on May 30, 2013.

The yield on the U.S. Treasury's 10-year note decreased nine basis points to 2.18% from 2.27% while the yield on the Treasury's 30-year bond fell eight basis points to 2.75% from 2.83% in the prior week.
