Seth Klaiman will join the Rhode Island Treasury as chief of staff effective Monday, state General Treasurer Seth Magaziner announced.
For the last seven years, Klaiman held a similar position for U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin, D-R.I.
“Seth Klaiman is a talented public servant with many years of experience working in Rhode Island government," Magaziner said.
Klaiman will succeed Kate Brock. Mike DeAngelis, Langevin's finance director and campaign manager since 2013, joined the congressman’s staff on Tuesday and assumed Klaiman’s role.
Previously, Klaiman worked on the campaigns of Jack Reed for U.S. Senate, Elizabeth Roberts for lieutenant governor and Bob Weygand for Congress, among others. Klaiman has also been director of major gifts at Providence College and Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children's Hospital.
“The Rhode Island treasurer's office plays a key role in our state's economy, and I'm excited for the opportunity,” Klaiman said.
Klaiman is a graduate of Keene State College in New Hampshire and Danvers High School in Massachusetts.
Magaziner’s office also announced the promotions of LeeAnn Byrne to deputy chief of staff and Charon Rose to deputy treasurer for financial empowerment and community outreach.
Byrne had been legislative director for Magaziner since 2017 and previously was policy director at the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless.
Rose has worked for Magaziner’s office in outreach and constituent affairs roles since 2015, and she previously worked at Women and Infants Hospital where she was a union delegate and member-political organizer for Service Employees International District 1199 New England.
She also sits on the board of Boys Town New England.
Magaziner is expected to run for governor in 2022. Term limits prevent fellow Democrat Gina Raimondo from seeking re-election.
