John Fechter Approved as New BDA Chair

WASHINGTON — John Fechter, managing director and head of taxable trading at Wells Fargo Advisors in St. Louis, Mo., has been chosen to chair Bond Dealers of America this year by the group's members.

BDA announced its new leadership team this week, which also includes Brian Brennan, managing director and head of fixed income for KeyBanc Capital Markets in Cleveland, as vice chair, and Tom Dannenberg, president and chief executive officer at Hutchinson, Shockey & Erley & Co. in Chicago, as treasurer.

BDA members also approved three new directors to the board: Lana Calton, managing director and head of clearing at Hilltop Securities Inc. in Dallas; Linda Matkowski, executive vice president and head of fixed-income at City Securities Corp. in Indianapolis; and Guy Yandel, executive vice president at George K. Baum & Co. in Denver.

Fechter replaces Steven Genyk, managing director and head of fixed-income at Janney Montgomery Scott in Philadelphia, who chaired BDA in 2015. He has been at Wells Fargo Advisors for about seven years and was at Wachovia Securities for about a year and a half before it was acquired in 2008 by Wells Fargo Advisors. Prior to that, he spent about 20 years with A. G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. which Wachovia Corp. acquired in 2007. He has a BA in marketing from Benedictine College.

Brennan is the division head, not only for fixed-income, but also for derivatives trading and sales and foreign exchange trading. He joined the KeyBanc in 1995 from Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette Securities. Before that he played nine years in the National Football League for the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengels and San Diego Chargers. He holds a BA in finance from Boston College.

Dannenberg has been at HSE since 2004, having started there as a member of the institutional sales team. He became a partner in 2007, a director in 2009, and the firm's CEO in 2012. Before joining HSE, Dannenberg spent five years in the federal government, holding positions in the Treasury Department and Department of Veterans Affairs. He holds a Master's degree from the University of Chicago and a BA from Bradley University.
