Initial jobless claims rose to 250,000 in the week ended Dec. 30, the Labor Department said Thursday.

The claims figure for the week ended Dec. 23 was revised to 247,000 from the originally reported 245,000.
Continuing jobless claims were 1.914 million in the week ended Dec. 23, down from 1.951 million the week before.
IFR Markets expected 240,000 initial claims.
The four-week average of initial claims was up 3,500 in the week ended Dec. 30 to 241,750.
