Jobless claims hold, still above recent trend

Initial jobless claims remained at 245,000 in the week ended Dec. 23, the Labor Department said Thursday. Continuing jobless claims were 1.943 million in the week ended Dec. 16, up from 1.936 million the week before.

IFR Markets expected 242,000 initial claims and 1.920 million continuing claims.

The four-week average of initial claims was up 1,750 in the week ended Dec. 23 to 237,750.
