Edrich Joins Greenberg Traurig

WASHINGTON — Matthias Edrich, vice chair of the National Association of Bond Lawyers' tax committee, has joined Greenberg Traurig's public finance tax practice as a shareholder.

He will be based in Greenberg's Boston and Denver offices but will serve clients nationally, the law firm said in a release. Before joining the firm, he was at Kutak Rock in Denver.

Edrich's move follows the departure from Greenberg earlier this summer of Carla Young, a former Internal Revenue Service official. She joined Nixon Peabody.

Edrich works with state and local governments, nonprofits, and for-profit clients on the federal tax treatment of municipal bonds, tax-credits, and corporate securities offerings. He has significant experience representing issuers in IRS audits of municipal securities and also advises nonprofits about obtaining and maintaining tax-exemption.

He has provided tax advice in financings for governmental facilities, hospitals, student loans, transportation, schools, libraries and districts. He has also helped structure new market tax credit and low income housing tax credit financings. Greenberg said.

"We are pleased to welcome a recognized leader in the tax and public finance areas," said Terence McCourt, managing shareholder of the firm's Boston office. "Matthias' experience and legal knowledge are a great asset to our clients."

Edrich received a master of laws, law, and master of business administration degrees from the University of Denver, as well as a bachelor of science degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

He has also served as an officer for the Colorado chapter of the German American Chamber of Commerce and provides general legal advice to German organizations doing business in the U.S. He is fluent in German and has worked near Munich, Germany.
