WASHINGTON — The District of Columbia and several authorities serving the Washington metropolitan area will host a conference for institutional investors in September, city officials said Monday.

The conference will take place on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, according to a news release from the D.C. Office of the Chief Financial Officer. In addition to the District, the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority are co-hosts.

This is the first D.C. conference for institutional investors. Philadelphia, Houston, Chicago and Los Angeles have held similar conferences on an annual or biannual basis, said Darryl Street, senior financial policy advisor in the D.C. CFO's office.

The D.C. conference stems from D.C. CFO Jeffrey DeWitt's initiative to increase outreach with the institutional investors who buy the District's debt. City officials thought it would be productive to have other large issuers in the D.C. area participate in the conference as well, Street said.

Investors will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about the issuers' capital improvement programs, debt profiles, upcoming debt issuances and financial updates. They will also hear about the outlook for the regional economy and will be able to take tours of D.C. and facilities of the participating authorities, according to D.C. officials.

Confirmed speakers include DeWitt, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, D.C. Deputy CFO and Treasurer Jeffrey Barnette, DC Water CFO Mark Kim, MWAA CFO Andrew Rountree and WMATA CFO Dennis Anosike. Investors will also be able to have one-on-one meetings with issuer officials.

Anyone with questions about the conference can contact Street at darryl.street@dc.gov or (202) 727-1768.
