Christine Song

Title: Director
Firm: Miller Buckfire & Co.
Age: 39

An internship at an asset management firm the week Detroit filed for Chapter 9 led Christine Song to working on one of the largest bankruptcies in municipal history — an opportunity she wouldn’t trade.

Her connections turned into a full-time position at Miller Buckfire & Co. — the investment banker for the city at the time.

During her seven-year career at the financial restructuring company, Christine has worked on the firm’s largest municipal restructuring mandates, including Detroit.

She also later worked on the historic bankruptcy for Puerto Rico’s general obligation credit and the Puerto Rico Sales Tax Financing Corp. (COFINA), according to Neil Shapiro, head of corporate communications at Stifel Financial Corp., who nominated her.

“Christine has demonstrated the ability to navigate and lead multi-party negotiations, provide thoughtful analyses, and work product to guide clients, work constructively with multiple creditor constituents to formulate joint proposals, and formulate creative solutions to get to a deal,” Shapiro said.

Her work on Detroit set a strong foundation for working with creditors on Puerto Rico, he noted.

From 2015 to 2019, she was an integral member of the team that advised the largest COFINA creditor group, COFINA Senior Bondholders' Coalition.

Since 2019, Christine has also been part of the team that is advising the Lawful Constitutional Debt Coalition to restructure the Puerto Rico GO credit.

“Working with our clients and my talented team to analyze and drive potential solutions is definitely the highlight of my job,” Christine said. “It also is gratifying to know our work is helping to right-size and fix a government’s or company’s balance sheet, which will enable it to re-access capital markets.”

Outside the municipal restructuring world, she spends time with her husband and two children and is especially active in their school. Christine enjoys traveling, running and swimming.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and Master of Business Administration from NYU Stern School of Business.
