Brattle Group to Examine Boston Olympic Bid

Cambridge, Mass., consulting firm Brattle Group will complete an independent analysis of the potential impacts to Boston of the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker announced June 1.

Boston last winter won the U.S. rights to bid for that Olympiad.

Brattle Group's review, according to Baker, will evaluate aspects of financing, infrastructure, economic impact and commonwealth and taxpayer responsibilities relative to Boston 2024's bid preparation. Brattle expects to finish its study by mid-August.

It will target financial evaluation; economic impacts; funding mechanisms; insurance requirements and protection of taxpayers; infrastructure investments; and state responsibilities. Financial reporting and accounting experts from Floyd Advisory LLC of New York will assist.

A selection committee of representatives of Baker's administration, Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, D-Amherst, and House Speaker Robert DeLeo, D-Winthrop, reviewed four proposals. The contract for a review capped at $250,000 with support from the Baker's office and the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, according to the governor's office.
