Anna Horevay works on projects that transform and revitalize communities throughout the country. After starting her career as an appellate law clerk, she quickly determined litigation was not the career path for her. "I felt like I was arguing all the time, and I wanted to work more collaboratively and do good for the public," said Horevay.
Despite not knowing anything about public finance, Horevay responded to a job opening for an associate in the public finance department at McGuireWoods and is now celebrating her ninth year there.
"What's great about what I do is that I get to invest in communities and make them better," said Horevay.
A pivotal point in Horevay's career came when she was working on a project outside of Nashville and the main partner on the deal suffered a tragedy, which forced her to step up. "I didn't expect the spotlight so early in my career, but it presented me with an opportunity, and I took it," said Horevay, who made partner at McGuireWoods in 2023.
As a first-generation college graduate, she cares deeply about giving back to her community. When she started working as a lawyer in public finance, she quickly saw that there were not many other young women working in the field. In 2019, she co-founded the Maryland chapter of Women in Public Finance. In addition, Horevay mentors Asian American students at her alma mater, the University of Maryland.
Horevay and her family also have a goal to travel to every U.S. national park and monument. They have visited 150 sites to date. "I love being outside with my family and this goal gives us the opportunity to spend time together," said Horevay.
