Top 10 bond counsel list sees some changes

The top bond counsel firms combined for a total of $359.123 billion in 7,878 transactions during 2022, down from the $456.136 billion in 11,819 deals in 2021.

Only four firms remained in the same spot as in the prior last year: Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, Kutak Rock, Norton Rose Fulbright and Chapman and Cutler. Bryant Rabbino and Squrire Patton Boggs entered the top 10, while Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth and Gilmore & Bell were bumped further down in the top 20.

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe keeps top spot

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe retained the top spot. The firm worked on $41 billion in 375 deals for a market share of 11.4%, down from the $63.965 billion in 577 issues and 14% share of the market in 2021.

Kutak Rock remained in second with $19.190 billion in 406 deals, or a 5.3% market share, down from $25.449 million in 527 deals, or a 5.6% market share the year before.

McCall Parkhurst & Horton is on the rise

McCall Parkhurst & Horton rose in the rankings, as the firm has accounted for $15.891 billion in 360 deals for a 4.4% market share, jumping to third from seventh. That compares to $14.539 billion in 442 deals for a 3.2% market share in 2021.

Norton Rose Fulbright remains in fourth

Norton Rose Fulbright came in fourth, counseling $15.369 billion in 236 deals, or a 4.3% market share, during 2022, versus $15.802 billion in 303 deals, or a 3.5% market share, in 2021.

Hawkins Delafield & Wood fell to fifth with $11.986 billion in 223 deals for a 3.3% market share last year, compared to $18.524 billion in 326 deals for a 4.1% market share in 2021.

Rounding out the top 10 are: Nixon Peabody in sixth with $10.736 billion in 75 deals; Bryant Rabbino followed with a total of $9.664 billion in 34 deals; Butler Snow was next with $9.492 billion in 93 deals; Chapman and Culter came after with $8.903 billion in 229 deals; and Squire Patton Boggs rounded out the top 10 with $8.647 billion in 107 deals.
