Rick G. Holzinger, 63

Rick G. Holzinger, head of investor relations at Build America Mutual Assurance Co., died in March 1 after a long illness. He was 63. His career in finance spanned 30 years including time as an attorney, and in investment banking, bond insurance, and consulting.

Nicholas Falgione of Wexford, Pa., died in May.

Nicholas Falgione, 55

Nicholas Falgione of Wexford, Pennsylvania, a long-time municipal banker and managing director at PNC Capital Markets, died in May after a long battle with liver cancer.

He joined PNC in 2013 as a managing director. His 16 years of public finance experience followed previous positions as managing director of public finance at Boenning & Scattergood and as a group executive director at J.P. Morgan Securities.

Rich Froehlich

Rich Froehlich, 57

Rich Froehlich, chief operating officer and first executive vice president the New York City Housing Development Corp. died in New York from a heart attack in September. He was 57.

He was remembered by colleagues as a champion of affordable housing. HDC finances the creation and preservation of affordable housing for low-, moderate- and middle-income New Yorkers.

John Knox, a public finance lawyer and former partner at Orrick, died at home in February. He was 64.

He aided the cities of Vallejo and Stockton through bankruptcy almost a decade ago.

Robert M. “Bob” Thrun, a public finance attorney whose Lansing-based law firm represents the majority of Michigan public schools, died in December at his winter home in Estero, Florida. He was 90.

Longtime muni veteran Wilson White founder of the municipal bond firm Wilson White Inc. died in November. He was 90.

He published three textbooks, entitled “The Municipal Bond Market: Fundamentals: A Handbook for Professionals,” “The Municipal Bond Market: Basics” and “The Municipal Bond Investment Advisor: Tax-Exempt Investing for High-Bracket Individuals.”

Homer Bernard "Bernie" Dodge

Homer Bernard 'Bernie' Dodge, 89

Homer Bernard “Bernie” Dodge, a Minneapolis native who led the former Evensen Dodge Inc. and its predecessor for 36 years, died at his home in Las Vegas in September. He was 89.

He sold the firm in 2003 but retained the international part of the business and continued to operate it with partner Fernando Gama.

Jeffrey Baker, 72

Jeffrey Mark Baker of River Edge, N.J., a career municipal analyst, died on July 26. He was 72.

He joined Chase Manhattan Bank in 1972 as a municipal analyst and later retired from its predecessor firm JPMorgan Chase.

He had been a past chair of both the Municipal Analysts' Group of New York and the National Federation of Municipal Analysts.

Robert Ward, 68

Robert Ward, a Connecticut lawmaker and state auditor, died in May after a long illness. He was 68.

He was North Branford lawyer who led the Republican minority caucus in the House of Representatives for 12 years and was one of two state auditors from 2011 to 2016.

Richard 'Dick' Weill, 78

Richard "Dick" L. Weill, a pioneer in the financial guaranty insurance industry and former president of MBIA Insurance Corp. died in July 4. He was 78.

He was a former partner and municipal bond attorney at Kutak Rock before joining MBIA.

Bruce C. Newman of Colorado died Nov. 18, 2020 in Denver. He was 87.

He founded Newman and Associates, Inc., a privately held investment banking firm. He had worked at Gerwin & Co., Boettcher & Co., and Resource Development Corp.
