Schools OK bond refinancing, maintenance

Grayson County, Ky., Schools authorized bond refinancing, as well as a number of maintenance projects on Thursday evening, May 11.

Prior to Thursday's Grayson County School Board meeting, the Grayson County School District Finance Corporation held a special-called meeting to discuss refinancing bonds from 2008 for an energy savings project on heating and cooling.

According to Grayson County Schools Finance Officer Erin Embry, refinancing the bonds is estimated to save the school system $10,000 to $13,000 per year for the next 11 years, for total savings of more than $100,000.

The School District Finance Corporation voted to refinance these bonds.

Following this special-called meeting, the Grayson County School Board called its regular meeting to order.

The School Board approved bids on several maintenance projects, which are expected to be done over the summer.

The first of these projects is painting the Grayson County High School gym ceiling, which will cost $19,000 plus an additional $3,400 for duct work and be done R.L. Smith Co.

The second project is resurfacing the student parking lot at Grayson County High School. This work will cost $46,881 and be done by Scotty's Contracting & Stone.

The School Board also accepted a bid from Scotty's for $79,000 for maintenance work on the tennis courts. This work will include removing damaged material and re-blacktopping the tennis courts; re-coating the courts with an approved surface and marking them; and installing new poles, nets, center straps, ground sleeves, and ground anchors for the center straps.
