Chagrin Falls voters approve bond issue

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -- Voters approved a combined property tax increase and bond issue Tuesday to improve Chagrin Falls school buildings, 67.1 percent to 32.9 percent, according to unofficial results from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

The vote allows the schools to issue $31.5 million in bonds to repair and renovate buildings, including the historic intermediate school. The district would also levy an additional 5.5 mills for current operating expenses, which would generate an additional $2.75 million a year.

"We're very excited about the result," Superintendent Robert Hunt said. "It's a reflection of a very supportive community."

The district has discussed the tax request for more than two years, and the community rallied around saving Intermediate School, rather than demolishing it and building new.

Chagrin Falls voters approved an income tax increase in November 2016.
