Austin J. Tobin Jr., a veteran of more than five decades in the municipal bond industry, died on Wednesday. He was 84.
Tobin founded and ran Delphis Hanover Corp., a municipal bond market research firm based in Southbury, Conn. The firm priced muni bonds and other market data daily from 1963 until it ceased operations on April 5, after Tobin took ill.
Delphis Hanover also did consulting and pricing advisory work. The firm helped muni issuers and financial advisors determine pre-sale fair market value pricing levels for negotiated offerings, as well as provide in-depth post-sale documentation.
Earlier in his muni bond career, he served as bond counsel for Wood, King and Dawson, and as an underwriter for W.H. Morton & Company.
Funeral arrangements are forthcoming, sources close to the family say.
Austin was the son of Austin J. Tobin, who from 1942 until 1972 served as the executive director of the Port of New York Authority, the precursor to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
